Currently I am working as artistic and managing director of Berliner Festspiele / Martin Gropius Bau, a cultural organisation overseeing festivals, exhibitions, programme series and individueal events for music, theatre, performance and art in Berlin. Before that I was the chief dramatic advisor and artistic director at Schauspielhaus Bochum from 2000 to 2005, chief dramatic advisor and co-director at Schauspielhaus Zürich in 05/06 and Head of Drama at the Salzburg Festival from 2006 to 2011. From 1988 to 2000 I lived once bevor in Berlin, where I earned a doctorate at Humboldt Universität in 1999. In 1997 I was a co-founder of the author’s Association Theater Neuen Typs (Theater of a New Kind), which is dedicated to the dissemination of theatre texts by German-speaking authors. I have written and translated several plays, realized art projects for Expo 2000, the Ruhrtriennale art festival, the European Capital of Culture Ruhr 2010 and I am author of several plays and books, including «Leben auf Probe. Wie die Bühne zur Welt wird» («Life is a Rehearsal: How the Stage Becomes a World», 2009), and «Das schöne Fräulein Unbekannt. Gespräche über Theater, Kunst und Lebenszeit» («The Lovely Miss Unknown: Discussions of Theater, Art, and Life», 2011), «Nebeneingang oder Haupteingang. Gespräche mit Peter Handke über 50 Jahre Schreiben fürs Theater» (Conversations with Peter Handke, 2014).
